The Ajana Oro, head of the oro cult in Agege kingdom and a high ranking traditional title holder in Yorubaland, has clarified that the declaration of the oro rites in some Lagos communities, has nothing to do with politics.
Oro is a spiritual rite performed in Yorubaland to cleanse the community of evil spirits. It is performed at intervals, as determined by the leadership of the oro cult with the authority of the monarch.
Few days to the elections, some communities in Lagos declared the rites. A decision which has attracted suspicion among residents, especially non-Yoruba dwellers in the state.
Soaking with Journalists in his Agege home, Chief Olawale Ayinla Arobadade explained that the panic was needless as the exercise is not targeted at anybody or to tamper with the exercise of citizens rights to vote.
He said: “The declaration of oro rites has nothing to do with either elections or Politics. No!.
“It is an important rite that we cannot afford to ignore in the interest of everybody living in the society.
“The joint declaration of Oro rites by many monarchs in the state os to ensure that when evil spirits are exorcised from one community, they don’t relocate to another within the state.” Chief Arobadade said
The Ajana oro blamed widespread misunderstanding of the African spiritual process for what he described as needless reactions.
“There are spiritual reasons for the joint declaration, which the uninitiated individuals do not understand.
“The widespread panic and political insinuations is needless. It is as a result of ignorance and the usual derision of the african spiritual system by the society” he said
