Senator Ahmed Lawan has been elected new senate President, after defeating his colleague, Senator Ali Ndume.

Below are some 10 Quick Facts about the new senate President

1.Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan was born in 1959.

2.He became a senator in 2007.

3.He is a Nigerian senator who represents the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the Yobe North Constituency of Yobe State.

4.He received a bachelor’s degree in Geography from the University of Maiduguri, a master’s degree in remote sensing from Ahmadu Bello University and a doctorate degree in remote sensing/GIS from Cranfield University, UK.

5.Elected to the House of Representatives for the northern state of Yobe in 1999, at different times Lawan chaired the House Committees on education and agriculture.

6.In 2008, he was a member of the National Assembly’s Joint Committee on Constitution Review.

7.In 2009, as chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, Lawan initiated and sponsored the Desertification Control Commission Bill.

8.In August 2009, Senator Lawan spoke against the proposed Kafin Zaki Dam. He stated that the Tiga Dam and Challawa Gorge Dam had already reduced water flow drastically, and the Jama’are River was now the main source of water in the Yobe River. He said the dams caused intense poverty, increased desert encroachment, migration and conflicts between arable farmers and herdsmen.

9.Lawan ran for reelection in Yobe North Senatorial District on the ANPP platform in the 9 April 2011 elections. He won with 92,799 votes, trailed by Hassan Kafayos Hussaini of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with 76,960 votes.

10.He was elected President of the Ninth Senate on this day, Tuesday, June 11, 2019, after 107 of the 109 senator-elect voted for him ahead of fellow APC senator Ali Ndume.

Edo 2020: Okaijiesan pledges support to Ize-Iyanmu

….extols Oshiomole’s giant stride

The Okaijiesan of Esan land Alhaji Williams Momodu,  the 2nd, have called on all Esan electorates to rally aronud the Apc candidate Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and his running mate Audu Gani in the September 19, 2020 gubernatorial election in Edo state.
The Okaijiesan recieved Comrade Adam Oshomole led members and the director General of POI and Audu campaign organisation, Rt major General Cecil  Esekhaigbe at the palace  on Thursday, during  a rally at Irrua, Edo state.
The Okaijiesan, momodu reminded the former Governor Adam Oshomole of his commitment toward bring good governance to the people of Esan, he also stressed on how the former Apc National chairman helped in construction of access roads that is being used by farmers and traders in the community, he assured the oshomole of his lasting support for Pastor Osage Ize-Iyamu and Apc in the election ahead.
Adam Oshomole, in his remark, explained why the party need to field a better candidate in the Governorship election, beside Godwin Obaseki, according to him, “the party with it ideology of continuity pinched on better life for the people ahead, i have built schools for the children as a governor which has being abandoned by Godwin Obaseki, also, constructed road that have giving access to farmers to take their products to the markets, tell Obaseki to show you the project he has done in Esan land?, he asked.
The Okaijiesan of Esan land Alhaji Williams Momodu prayed for the POI/AUDU campaign team and wishes them success in the election.
The campaign train moved to the open field at the Director General house, where Oshomole addressed both youth and women.

EDO 2020: Education Board chairman, others resign from Obaseki’s government

Chairman of the Edo State Post Primary Education Board, Pastor Gabriel Oiboh and the first member of the board, Osanyemwere Osawe, have resigned their appointments from the Godwin Obaseki Government as the state inches towards the 2020 governorship election.
Oiboh, who spoke on behalf of the team regretted the pressure mounted on him to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He said “I have tendered my resignation from the board due to unduly pressures from my former boss, Governor Godwin Obaseki over decamping with him to the PDP. The presure is too much and it is now leading to threats. I stand with my party, the APC and will be loyal to the party candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu”
Meanwhile the standard bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in that election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has applauded effort of the team in retaining their ground as a member of the party. He assured them of the party victory toward the forthcoming Elections

Magugate: Buhari names Umar as EFCC Acting Chairman

After days of different names flying all over the media space, President Muhammadu Buhari has finally named Mohammed Umar as the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Umar takes over from Ibrahim Magu whose suspension has just been confirmed by President Buhari and who is still being investigated for several allegations ranging from conversion of recovered funds to personal use to insurbodination.

The new acting chairman was until his appointment, the director of operations at the EFCC and was next to the chairman, Magu in hierarchy.

Umar Jibrilu Gwandu, media aide to Abubakar Malami, the attorney-general of the federation, disclosed this in a press statement on Friday. Gwandu added that pending the appointment of Umar as acting chairman will stand pending the conclusion of the ongoing investigation of Magu by a presidential panel.

Gwandu said Magu’s suspension is to allow for “unhindered inquiry by the Presidential Investigation Panel under the Tribunals of Inquiry Act and other relevant laws”.

This finally brings to rest, the debate on who takes over from Magu as the chief of the Anti-graft agency.
