“Badagry needs more intervention from the FG in terms of infrastructural development” -Re-elected Council Boss

Honourable Oluwasegun Onilude who emerged for the second term as the Badagry local government chairman after the local council poll last weekend told journalists in an exclusive interview that the psyche of Badagry people is affected through the consistent infrastructural deprivation of the area despite its tourist status.

Olusegun made this assertion known to journalists while the collation of result was still on going last Saturday.

In his response to the question raised by journalist on his strides in making the bad roads motorable during his second term, he said,

“That responsibility is for federal government not for a state government or local government. It is completely beyond the capacity of a local government, the local government can’t do anything about that road. What we could do is to continue to tell the Federal government that we are deprived. To continuously remind them that Badagry is a tourist hub. Badagry is a tourism destination, and no tourism can improve or be well served with this kind of road, ” so the federal government is really doing a lot of damage to the psyche of the people in Badagry because of this road”.

He said since Badagry lacks infrastructure, he will be concentrating more on infrastructural development and human capacity development. In his words, “if we can achieve on that two, we are good”. He asserted.

“Those of us who are privilege to be in the corridor of power should do more to encourage or to build infrastructure to support economic development.

“When you are well engaged, your hand will provide the need of your stomach and vice versa”. He asserted.

Olusegun in his assessment account of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu during the interview said he is the most compassionate governor he had ever seen. He is humble and simple. He said it is obvious Sanwo Olu is not a power monger, he sees himself as someone who is just privileged to be in that position.

“He has compassion for people. If we can continue to have governors and leaders that are compassionate, that are humble, the pain of the masses could be alleviated.

“One of the best thing is for your governor to feel what you feel. One of the best thing that would make you happy is to see your governor relate with you freely”. He said

He attributed voter apathy at the local council poll to lack of seriousness of other political parties who contested with All Progressive Congress (APC).

“If you are contesting with people who are not serious, they won’t be serious enough to come out and vote. It is we and the general masses that are voting, the other contestants didn’t do their job. While we are rallying up and down, canvassing for votes, they were sleeping at home. Little wonder, when the result comes out, when they get zero and we get 100 marks, then they start wailing and lamenting.

“You can’t sow maize and expect to harvest cassava. What you sow is what you reap”. The Chairman asserted.
