Report just coming in says the doctor who treated the late Liberian Ebola victim, is down with the deadly Ebola virus.
Global newswire, Reuters quotes Nigeria’s health minister, Onyebuchi Chukwu as declaring that the Doctor has tested positive to Ebola.
Prof. Chuckwu said: “As of today, one of the doctors that treated the late Mr Sawyer has tested positive for the Ebola virus.
“Of 70 people who were under surveillance, eight had been “quarantined at an isolation ward provided by the Lagos state government,” he added.
Liberian-American Patrick Sawyer collapsed after arriving in Lagos, Nigeria –some days ago, on a flight from Liberia. A short time later, he was dead as a result of Ebola Virus attack.
Sawyer’s death is the first recorded case of one of the world’s deadliest diseases in Nigeria, Africa’s biggest economy and most populous nation, with 170 million people and some of Africa’s least adequate health infrastructure.
About 60 Nigerians had contact with the late Sawyer between his arrival and death in Lagos.
Ebola has killed 632 people across Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone since an outbreak began in February, straining a string of weak health systems despite international help.
