Some fashion designers in the country have given their support to the Lagos fashion show 2014 scheduled for October. The show which is being put together by Meridyen exhibition in collaboration with Ministry of economy, Turkey will feature both foreign and local designers.
Nigerian fashion Icon and founder, House of Bunor, Frank Oshodi said Designers in the country need the platform and urges young designers in the country to utilize the opportunity.
Oshodi also called on Nigerin designers to use the opportunity to exhibit locally made fabrics and engage in exporting what we have in the country in the area of fashion to other parts of the world. He explained that local beads and other fashion accessories will be exhibited at the fair.
Fashion in Africa has changed, young Nigeria designers should be encouraged to take part in the exhibition and if possible should be allowed to participate in the fair for free” he said.
Director of Meridyen, Nigeria, Ayodeji Olugbade said the company has organized about 500 fashion show worldwide, adding that the show is open to both international and local fashion designers. He said they have about 90 international designers who have indicated interest to feature at the exhibition and called on Nigeria designers to a chance at the fair and collaborates with foreign designers.
According to him, the exhibition will benefit upcoming designers and some fashion seekers who will patronize the exhibitors.
Nigerian designers should come with their various wears, showcase them and market themselves and collaborate with foreign business people in the area of machineries. We will feature run way girls this year who will showcase made in Nigeria wears” he said.
Olugbade noted that the fee for exhibitors will differ as local designers who wishes to get a stand will be expected to pay less compared to their foreign counterpart. He urges Nigerian designers to utilize the opportunity to exhibit their designs and promote their business. The Lagos fashion show which will take place from October 21-23 will be held at the Eko Convention Center, Victoria island, Lagos.
