Federal Roads Construction : LP Wants National Assembly to Investigate Claims of Refund by State Governments

The Labour party (LP) in Ogun has called on the National Assembly and the Federal House of Representatives to investigate claims of refund by state government’s on Federal roads constructed by them .
LP on Fed RoadsThe party, who spoke through its State Chairman, Mr Abayomi Arabambi , at a press conference in Abeokuta on Sunday , urged both Chambers to send their committees for on the spot assessment before payment.
Arabambi alleged that some of the roads claimed by Gov Ibikunle Amosun to have been completed were never constructed or rehabilitated.
He said that the attention of the party had been drawn to a purported presentation by Ogun government to the House Committee on Works and Finance for refund of N222.9 billion for constructions done on Federal roads.
“Our attention has been drawn to a purported presentation by Ogun government to the House Committee on Works and Finance for refund of N222.9 billion in respect of construction work done on federal roads.
“It is an attempt to use his closeness with the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun and immunity to defraud the people of Nigeria and put Ogun state in perpetual debt and stock money to install his cronies as successor in 2019.
“We urge you to investigate this claims of refund by Ogun government and also to send your committee to come for on the spot assessment with members of civil right groups and other necessary bodies.
“We state without any fear of contradiction that the OGTV to Ibadan and Papalantoro to Federal  Polytechnic Roads were never constructed neither rehabilitated.
“We have already sent our petitions to both the National assembly and the house of representstives which became imperative so that sanity can be restored into our state finance and administration.
“It is in full glare of the public that the Federal government has given three tranches of Paris club refund to states and our dear state has so far received the sum of N46billion, ” he said.
He, however, said that if nothing was done on the petition sent to the President of the Senate and the Speaker, House of Representatives, the party would be ready to take the state government to court.
Commenting on the State of education in the state  he said “Mr President, Our public schools are nothing to write home about. Hospitals has no bed, ambulances nor drugs.
“The construction of 22 model schools awarded in 2012 is still under construction at the cost of N2billion each.
“We would ensure that this government do not defraud Ogun indigenes as we are ready to take the Government,Ministry of Finance and the Senate to court.
“in fact some roads are constructed as constituency project but claimed by the Ogun state government, ” he said.
Arabambi reiterated that democracy should be about accountability, adding that the party would not give room for any form of impunity.
